The Jackson All-Stars were recently the inspiration for local artist Becky Barnett! Bandleader David Schommer was asked to assemble a traditional New Orleans style brass band for a wedding, in Canton. On May 29, 2010, The Jackson All-Stars Brass Band was born! A spin-off of The Jackson All-Stars, the professional brass band performed a swingin' Dixieland version of "Here Comes the Bride" at Grace Episcopal Church followed by a second line stroll around Canton Square to the Old Post Office. Tunes included Second Line, Down By the Riverside and When the Saints Go Marching In! Musicians included David Schommer (Trumpet/Vocals), Jeff Reiter (Lead Trumpet), Mike Weidick (Trombone), Maurice Hillman (Sax), Steve Cook (Snare), Bobby McClellan (Bass Drum), and Matthew Bear (Tuba). The oil paintings above were created from the brass band's historic performance!

"A new element is emerging in conjunction with Mal’s St. Paddy’s Parade weekend that takes even more revelry to downtown streets. On March 18, the Marching MALfunctions Second Line Stomp & Street Festival will put the festivities on foot as Friday-night-before celebrants march from the former King Edward Hotel to Hal & Mal’s. The free fun culminates in a concert and street party.
“It looks like there might be a pretty good gathering,” said Hawkins, judging from social network traffic for the group on Facebook. Marchers will gather around 5 p.m. March 18 and step off at 7 p.m. for the march up Capitol Street with the Jackson All-Stars Brass Band escorted by the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, he said.
The free concert at Hal & Mal’s that night will feature performances by Bailey Brothers, The House Rockers and Super Chikan and the Fighting Cocks."

The Jackson All-Stars Brass Band
History was made when The Jackson All-Stars were recently asked to assemble a traditional New Orleans style brass band for a wedding, in Canton. Almost all of these musicians have volunteered to perform with the Mississippi Swing Brass Band for the annual Mal's St. Paddy Parade. The Mississippi Swing Brass Band is the 3-time winner of the Otha Turner Marching Award.
A special thanks goes to Thomas Dagostino and Renee Halsey for giving us this opportunity! Thanks also goes to Elizabeth Koskie and Maurice Hillman for developing an effective bassline from the original Bridal Chorus for the event! Thanks also goes to Bobby McClellan for providing the brass band hats and Becky McClellan for photographing the event.
For more information, contact David Schommer (Bandleader), at 601-951-9091.

"Thank you and everyone for being such a perfect fit on our most special day!...We wouldn't have wanted anyone else!...All the best!" - Renee' and Tom (Wedding, May 2010)
"The band was absolutely awesome! Ann had always wanted 'When the Saints Go Marching In' played at her funeral and in a jazzy style. It was the perfect ending. It really made us smile and brought some relief when we heard them. Morgan, Brooks' sister, found them by googling them. We were most impressed!!" - A. Stone (Funeral, July 2011)
