Germanfest 2010! Guten Tag!

Germanfest 2010!

Founded in 2006, the Oompah Band Mississippi Schwingen! has become quite a favorite with the local community! Starting with about 14 musicians, the band  grew to a staggering 28 for the 2010 performance at Germanfest! In 2011, 27 volunteers made the performance! Quite possibly the  largest organized oompah band in the state, the band plays original Oompah Band arrangements - ordered straight from Germany! The 2011 performance was the band's sixth straight year at St. Joseph's Germanfest, in Gluckstadt. For 2011, the repertoire  included the favorites - Beer Barrel PolkaThe Chicken Dance, Too Fat Polka and Eidelweiss.

Getting into the Oktoberfest spirit? Thinking about celebrating Oktoberfest at your church? private party? or restaurant? A more streamlined version of the band is available upon request. Contact David Schommer, Bandleader,  at 601-951-9091 for more information...

About Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest began in 1810 as a royal Bavarian wedding party. It has since become the largest secular celebration on earth, attracting millions of participants annually. Eating, drinking, and dancing feature prominently in the festivities. For many, however, the best part of Oktoberfest is the lively, colorful, and entertaining music performed by the Bavarian Oktoberfest oom-pah band. Consisting mainly of polkas, waltzes, and marches, it is the type of music that can be listened to and enjoyed all year long.
